Track Trailer is Australian based and owned. Their business has been at the cutting edge of trailer design since 1982. Track Trailer manufactures high performance off road trailers. Their product range is focused primarily on recreational camper systems, but they also manufacture high performance off road trailers for commercial and military use.

Track Trailer design and manufacturing processes are based around CAD/CAM which enables them to produce accurate and reliable product to the highest standard with the greatest possible efficiency all the way from design down to their rolling production line. Their reputation has been built on their commitment to quality.

What makes Track Trailer different?

All Track Trailer’s models are equipped with MC2 type suspension coupled with Koni high performance shock absorbers to ensure greater towing stability and the smoothest ride possible. MC2 type suspension is the best off road suspension you can get when travelling off road. The system seeks to out perform modern 4WD vehicles and addresses criteria such as long wheel travel, soft, flat ride, directional stability, durability, low maintenance and ease of service. The design also achieves self-steering geometry.

What is MC2 suspension?

MC2 Suspension The military uses a performance-based system to specify the level of off road mobility for ground vehicles. Vehicles are rated from MC1-MC4. MC2 stands for ‘mobility category 2’ and is the highest rating applicable for non-powered vehicles. No other off road trailer can claim this level of suspension, illustrating just how advanced Track Trailer’s products are. Track Trailer products are further enhanced by the use of galvanized steel chassis, interlocked and hot dipped, ensuring they are stronger and more reliable than your average off road vehicle. The MC2 type suspension makes sure you get there, in complete comfort and confidence.

The Models.

The Tanami, Canning and Murranji are all named after famous Australian TRACKS. During the mid to late 1800's and early 1900's these tracks where the "highways" used by drovers to push large mobs of slow moving cattle through some of the driest, harshest and remotest parts of the Australian continent on the way to markets.

Today, Australians are still using these tracks, as well as travelling to all points North, South, East and West of this wonderful country in the comfort and security of their Tvans.

Tvan is an extraordinary camper trailer that provides unrivalled levels of comfort, equipment and performance. Quite simply, Tvan is the best camper trailer available today. But don't just take our word for it - ask the Caravan Industry Association, which in 2000 recognised Tvan's superior design, technology and comfort by naming Tvan Camper Trailer of the Millennium'

What the press say about Tvan

Kevin Baldwin - Land Rover World

"quite possibly the finest overland trailer in the world"

Mathieu Raudonikis - Editor Overlander

"Tvan will go further that any standard 4wd and then some"

Australian off-road expert Ron Moon

"I've tested plenty of camper trailers, but I only bought one - Tvan".

Why is Tvan so superior to other campers?

Tvan has been carefully designed by Track Trailer to eliminate the problems associated with outdated, flip-over type campers - leaking canvas; noisy flapping walls and soggy floors. And Tvan's canvas tent stores neatly into the rear hatch, which keeps your bed dry, unlike other campers that store wet canvas over your sleeping area. Protected from the harsh outside elements, you're assured of a good night's sleep and a great day's camping.

Tvan draws on track's extensive experience in developing an asymmetric link suspension and chassis system to meet the military's need to carry sensitive communications equipment over the roughest terrain. Quite simply, it is the most sophisticated and reliable camper trailer suspension ever designed and it's exclusive to Tvan.

Feature Benefits

Hard walls and roof in bed area. Eliminates discomfort of wet and flapping canvas. Enhanced feeling of comfort and security.
Hard floor in tent area. Ease of set-up including on uneven ground – no pegs or guy ropes.
Living space one-metre longer than other campers. More living space without increasing overall length.
Ease of set-up/pack-up Either can be achieved in three- minutes. Design means that procedure is incremental – no intimidating large parts to handle – can be managed single handed by average size male or female. Once deck is deployed and hatch raised tent set up is completed under cover in the event of rain.
Three modes of deployment
  1. Lower deck, get in and close hatch for emergency, security or severe conditions.
  2. Lower deck and fit fly screen – for favourable overnight conditions.
  3. Deploy tent for full camper accommodation.
Roll-out stainless steel kitchen. Compact, self contained, easily accessible, durable, hygienic and easily clean. No support props required.
Short-stop easy access kitchen and interior. Access internal load and fridge etc for roadside stop in seconds.
Sitting area available on tent set-up. Comfort and convenience.
Easy access to bed – 150mm thick mattress – queen size option. Floor area at rear of bed offers ease of access - no high climb or drop to floor level. Mattress is fully supported. Some campers offer queen-size bed but end of mattress may be unsupported.
Will carry fridge and porta potti. Floor area at rear of bed permits loading of large storage containers and fridge etc.
Wet canvas does not pack onto bed. Canvas stores in lift-up hatch well away from bed area.
Two to three times the load volume of other campers. Significant load and storage opportunities. 1300 litre load volume – 500kg load mass.
Up to twice the wet load capacity. Carry a greater payload or lighter total towed weight.
Load accessible without tent set-up. Lower deck and raise hatch in 20 seconds and all load space is accessible.

Chassis System

Jig welded – twin torque design – laser cut bracketry – hot dip galvanized. Torsionally rigid – maximum rust protection. Hot dip galvanising offers far greater rust protection than galvabond, which is an electro-deposit method applied to stock steel sections. Welding destroys galvabond surface treatment.
MC2 Asymmetric Link Suspension. Designed to match modern tow vehicle performance potential. Superior off-road performance, durability and reliability increase driver and passenger confidence and comfort levels MC2 = Mobility Category 2 – a high-performance and durability requirement for sensitive off-road military trailers. Tvan shares its suspension design with our ‘in service’ military trailers. No other camper trailer can claim this.
250mm wheel travel. Sixty per cent more than any competitor product. Smoothes out the roughest terrain. Eases stress on tow vehicle and driver
Self -steering geometry. Trailer is easy to tow and directionally stable on all surfaces.
Lighter ball weight than other campers-approx 110kg. Load carrying opportunities permit load management and maintenance of ball weight at about 110kg. Other designs dictate that major loads be carried on draw bar and increase ball weight.
Superior chassis system design and performance. Structurally sound, maximum departure and break over angles. Trailer will not hang up on anything tow vehicle gets through.
Parallel 1600kg axles. Provides performance and reliability safety factor Most trailers and caravans use 1200kg tapered axles.
Logical spare wheel mounting. Easily accessible in muddy or dusty conditions. Enhances aerodynamic shape.
Koni shock absorbers custom valved to Track Trailer specifications. Enhance suspension design for superior performance

Frequently Asked Questions.

What is the load capacity?

Payload is 500kg

What size is the bed?

Standard mattress is Queen width by 6'2" long. An optional clip on bed extension achieves queen size length. The mattress is 150mm thick high-density foam.

Can the bed be left made up?

Yes. The bed area is not encumbered or critical in converting Tvan to travel mode.

Is wet canvas packed over the bed?

Tvan eliminates the major problem of wet canvas packed on the bed by stowing canvas in the lift-up hatch well away from the bed area.

How long is it inside?

From front of bed to rear of breakfast bar is 4800mm (16 feet). Deck area under tent is 2050mm long.

What are set-up/sleep configurations?

  1. Foul weather/stuck in the mud: Lower deck, raise hatch, enter and close hatch - 20 seconds.
  2. Fair weather, lazy stop, no need to deploy tent, maximum ventilation: Lower deck, raise hatch and enter - 15 seconds. A slip on fly screen is offered to suit this mode.
  3. Deploy tent: Lower deck, raise hatch, drop tent from hatch and set up three to four minutes.

Is it practical to access internal load for roadside stops?

Yes. Lower deck and raise hatch, which takes about 20 seconds. This may include access to primary or second fridge carried in the trailer at the rear of bed.

Should I be concerned about quality and security of drinking water?

An Australian manufactured 70-litre 'food grade' water tank is standard and stone protected by steel enclosure. The water tank is served by electric and hand pumps. A second 70-litre tank is optional.

What is additional water and fuel carrying capacity?

Five jerry cans. Three holders at the draw bar and one to each rear pannier are standard. Tvan's total standard wet load capacity is 170-litres.

What is the load / storage volume?

Total 1100 litres plus kitchen. (Almost double that available with 'flip-over' type campers.) Additional provision for load: On bed, open load space at rear panniers for rubbish bags, recycling etc., wood carry rack, space forward of gas bottle for small fuel container, recovery gear or tool box. Specific volumes expressed as litres are: under bed - 280. Floor area rear of bed - 470. Each side of bed - 120. Right-hand side locker - 230.

What is the wheel track?

Track is 1620mm but will vary nominally with various wheel / tyre specs.

Will Tvan go where I intend travelling?

Tvan employs our unique MC2 Asymmetric link suspension system. It comprises independent lateral axle members arranged asymmetrically and located by trailing radius links. Coil springs and Koni shock absorbers are also employed.

The system matches the performance of modern 4WD vehicles and addresses criteria such as long wheel travel, soft, flat ride, directional stability, durability, low maintenance and ease of service.

Unlike a leaf or trailing arm system, it does not have bad load paths and eliminates latent torsion. Bushes do not carry major chassis loads and the design achieves self-steer geometry. Recommended service interval for major components is five 5 years or 100,000km.

Many people purchase expensive vehicles and spend more money modifying suspensions for outback use. Most trailers will compromise performance potential of such a vehicle. Imagine the confidence level of owning one that won't. MC2 equipped trailers have been supplied to Army, Navy, Air Force and Telstra for outback use.

What is the departure angle?

Departure angle is 30 degrees. This means Tvan has greater mobility than most towed or tow vehicles.

What are kitchen options?

Standard kitchen is all stainless steel and fully contained - it is not a split system. It is accessible at all times with fingertip rollout operation. No props or legs need to be deployed. A large cutlery drawer and 65-litre storage volume are standard. An electric sink tap is standard.

Can I access the kitchen without setting up the camper?

Want a relaxing brew en-route to your favourite location. Simply pull over, slide out the kitchen and put on the kettle for a delicious and refreshing tea or coffee.

Is the Tvan weatherproof?

Unlike other camper trailers, Tvan has hard walls and roof over bed area and eliminates the problem of wet, leaking or flapping canvas. Canvas over the deck area is high quality and securely seals to body area and deck. In travel mode, side locker doors and rear hatch close onto automotive type seals.

Should I be concerned about draw bar ball weight?

Tvan does not allow for carrying load boxes, fridge etc on the draw bar. Distribution of wet load provisions and other load opportunities permit load management and adjustment of ball weight.
